Lentils in Red Wine
This heartwarming lentil dish is perfect for cold days when you want to snuggle under the covers and read a book. Whether served with a fluffy turmeric rice, on mashed potatoes or even plain, this dish tastes delicious. A culinary hug.

Ingredients
Serves 4- 250 g mountain lentils
- 7 cloves
- 2 tsps coriander seeds
- 2 tsps paprika powder
- 1 tsp chilli flakes
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 pinch of nutmeg
- 2 onions (medium size)
- 3 tbsps oil
- 250 ml red wine
- 400 ml grape juice
- 250 ml vegetable stock
- ½ pomegranate
- salt
- pepper

250 g mountain lentils
Wash the mountain lentils and soak them in a bowl of water for 30 minutes.

1 pinch of nutmeg
In the meantime, prepare the spice mixture. Grind the coriander seeds and cloves in a mortar and add the remaining spices and set aside.

Cut the onion into thin strips and sauté in a pot with oil for 10 minutes on medium heat. Stir occasionally.

400 ml grape juice

Add the mountain lentils to the onions and sauté for another 2-3 minutes. Add the spices, stir in and sauté for another 2 minutes. Deglaze with the red wine and reduce for 2 minutes. Then add the grape juice, vegetable stock and bay leaf. Simmer on low to medium heat for 40 minutes.

½ pomegranate
Season with salt and freshly ground pepper and serve with pomegranate seeds.
